Balzac’s absinthe meets the Lady in Green

A legendary spirit with greenish hues, it is the subject of numerous myths and rumors. The history of absinthe spans millennia, with references to its use dating back to ancient Egypt—specifically in the Ebers Papyrus, the oldest known medical treatise, written during the reign of Amenhotep I. Even then, absinthe was recognized for its medicinal properties, acting as an aphrodisiac and a creativity booster. However, due to a poor reputation and several unfortunate incidents, absinthe was long subject to bans in various countries—restrictions that have only recently been lifted.

Launched in 2018, Balzac Québec absinthe was developed by Distillerie Mariana, four years after the company was founded in Louiseville. This February, their absinthe liqueur takes center stage in our Cocktail of the Month—a simple way to introduce absinthe with a refreshing twist.
