Backwater Township is a jazz trio based in Montreal, QC that consists of Corey Thomas (Bass), Olivier Turner (Guitar), and Vitta Morales (Drums). The music composed by Corey Thomas is a tribute to his experiences as a Mi’kmaq artist in his home community of Gesgapegiag, and his continuing journey as an urban Indigenous musician in Montreal. Since forming in 2018, Backwater Township has released an EP and continues to perform while further establishing themselves in the scene.

On peut d’écrire le Ria Reece Band comme ‘’Soul Rock’’. Le groupe puise ses influences musicales auprès du Blues et du R&B. Puissante et envoûtante, la voix de Ria est l’ingrédient magique. La formation régulière du groupe comprend la guitare, l’orgue B3 / Rhodes, la basse et la batterie.
Lancé le 5 octobre 2015, le deuxième album du Ria Reece Band, intitulé ‘’Out All Night’’, a été particulièrement populaire sur les radios campus. Le disque a atteint le ‘’Top200’’ au palmarès Earshot, et s’est classé au ‘’Folk/Roots/Blues Top10’’, ‘’HipHop Top10’’ et ‘’Top30’’ sur plusieurs stations à travers le Canada. L’album a également été en rotation quotidienne tout au long de l’année 2016 sur Stingray Radio via la télévision par câble et en rotation régulière à DAWG.FM à Ottawa. ‘’Out All Night’’ inclut une performance de Guy Bélanger, joueur d’harmonica primé au Maple Blues Award.

Ria Reece a fait ses débuts en 2012. Après avoir joué seulement quelques spectacles dans la région de Montréal, elle a été invitée à se produire à la 16ième édition de la Virée Blues Boréale à Gatineau / Hull. L’année suivante, Ria et son groupe se sont produit au prestigieux Festival d’Été de Québec. Peu de temps après, le groupe lance son disque éponyme ‘’Ria Reece Band’’. L’album fut en nomination pour deux trophées Lys Blues; ‘’Album Blues et Styles Associées de l’Année’’ et ‘’Groupe Révélation’’.

En 2015, Ria Reece Band a été invité à se produire au ‘’CMW’’ (Canadian Music Week) à Toronto. La même année, le groupe a également été invité à se produire au ‘’Blues Summit 7’’, le forum bisannuel canadien pour tous les membres de la communauté de la musique blues; qui inclut la
musique blues dans toutes ses formes. Après la sortie de ‘’Out All Night’’, Ria et ses musiciens prennent la route pour promouvoir leur nouvel album. ENG: Les Flâneurs is a Quebec band that plays music rooted in the rich Cajun and Creole traditions of south-west Louisiana. The band’s sound travels between ballads, two-steps and waltzes influenced by country, Cajun and Zydeco music. Celebrating North American francophone music, Les Flâneurs have created a sound that is true to that of southwest Louisiana while emulating regional influences, especially in their original compositions and arrangements. For almost two decades, Grouyan Gombo, founded by accordionist and songwriter Harlan Johnson, has performed on multiple stages across Canada. In 1997, the disc “Betsy Stomp” by Grouyan Gombo was finalist for the album of the year by a group from outside Louisiana by the Cajun Music Association of Louisiana and in 2015 their second disc “Pouyaille” received a nomination for the disc of the year at the Gala Lys Blues. Guitarist Guillaume Jabbour and Harlan Johnson met in 2010 when Guillaume joined the Grouyan Gombo group. Since that time, the two have lived several musical adventures together and respectively. Seven years later, here they are back with a new group to pay tribute to the music of Louisiana, which they perform unpretentiously, with great warmth and rhythm. A new addition to this musical circle, Bill Gossage, well known on the Montreal scene and regularly on tour across Canada with La Montagne Secrète, brings a fresh ear and knowledge rooted in the tradition of Irish fiddlers.

For nearly two decades, Grouyan Gombo, founded by accordionist and songwriter Harlan Johnson, rocked Canadian stages. In 1997 Grouyan Gombo’s cd “Betsy Stomp” was named runner up by The Cajun French Music Association for best release from outside Louisiana and in 2015 their album “Pouyaille” received a Lys Blues album of the year nomination. Guitarist Guillaume Jabbour and Harlan Johnson first came together in 2010 when Guillaume teamed up with Grouyan Gombo. Numerous musical adventures, and years later, they again join forces, presenting original and traditional tunes that pay homage to the rich musical legacy of south west Louisiana. Today the band features a sound that is direct, warm and groove focused, bridging the traditional and contemporary strains of a rich genre. Of late, the circle of Les Flâneurs has opened to feature a third element: the fiddle of Bill Gossage. With a musical culture that spans diverse styles while drawing upon deep roots in the Irish fiddle vernacular, Bill has long been a reputed member of the Montreal music community. He is also known across Canada for his work with the francophone Saskatchewan formation La Montagne Secrète. Louisiana Cajun culture has been recognized for its ability to resist, persist and celebrate life despite adversity.

Frisco Lee is a bilingual Montreal born-and-raised musician who’s been anchored in the underground music scene for almost a decade. Hailing from the suburbs and armed with a blues background, he began playing the bar circuits and hosting the Bar de Courcelle open mic, lending his talents to a slew of bands and unique songwriters. A couple of years ago, he began cultivating a widely-varied collection of self-penned songs in the style of old blues, country, folk, and jazz, striking a contemporary chord with indie and psychedelic stylings, and passionate about creating timeless sounds and relevant poetry. Frisco Lee is expected to release his first collection of songs as an EP, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar.
Montreal singer-songwriter Frisco Lee has left his mark on the bar music scene – including Grumpy’s, Honey Martin’s and Bar de Courcelle – since 2012. With his unique interpretation of Blues, Folk and Country, he accompanies himself on the guitar for sing his own compositions, halfway between Ray Charles and Bob Dylan.

Martin Goyette is first and foremost an extraordinary voice characterized by a song as powerful as it is scratchy. The singer seduces the audience with his raucous and enveloping “instrument” worthy of the great names of blues and jazz. Passionate about blues and jazz but also funk and soul, it is in these different styles that he propels his impulses. Born in the St-Henri district of Montreal, it was at the age of 18 that he started playing the harmonica, feeding on Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson of this world. In 1997, he thrilled the Quebec blues scene for the first time by winning the honors of the Valleyfield blues event in the Dirty blues band.
In 2002, he won the next generation prize at the Festiblues de Montréal at the head of the Riverside Blues group. A French tour ensued in 2003, including the opening act for Bob Walsh at the prestigious Blues sur Seine festival. The latter being hospitalized in emergency, Martin goes up on stage to open the ball in addition to replacing Mr. Walsh within his orchestra. After which a slew of first parts of the legendary bluesman on Quebec soil followed one another and Goyette was invited, on several occasions, to replace Guy Bélanger on the harmonica within the group.
Since then, Martin has been seen in several important events including the Belles et Blues hosted by Normand Brathwaite in 2004 and the Montreal Harmonica Festival with Carl Tremblay in 2005. He won 2nd place at the Toronto Blues Talents Search in 2006 and also performed in the Queen City in 2007 at the Toronto Blues Summit.
More recently, soul lovers have been able to hear it, accompanied by his Skinny Bones, on the occasion of the Montreal International Jazz Festival, at the opening of Bernard Adamus’ concert at the Sherblues Festival, at the Festival International de Blues de Tremblant or opening act for the prince of soul and funk, Lee Fields. TVA viewers were also able to see it on the popular program La Voix.
